"Expelled" Movie Comments (Part 1: Overview)
by Bernie Dehler, 5-2-08
I'm going to write a series of small articles on this movie. Personally, I've been diving into the creation/evolution debate lately (over the last year or so), and so I have a lot of thoughts on this subject. So far, I saw the movie 3 times, and took notes.
Let me mention two things right off the bat. One good, and one bad thing for the movie.
Good: Brings up the fact that the scientific community has no answer for the "origin of life" question. How did life form from non-life? There are a few hypotheses, but no discoveries yet. This is probably shocking for most people who tend to think that science has all the basic answers to evolution figured out.
Bad: It is very disgraceful how the producers of this movie interviewed their "enemies" under false pretense (under a fake movie name and fake content description), chopped-up their testimony to give it different context, then forbid these "enemies" from pre-screening shows. This is not a "documentary" but a premiere example of a "mockumentary." It is not fair, and has no attempt at being fair.
Click here to learn more about the deceptive nature of the production, and here to see what a "mockumentary" is.
In summary, there are many good and bad points for the movie, but it is really shameful how they treated the "enemy side" in the controversy.

Why would you take their word for it regarding the supposed "deceptive nature" of the project? "Expelled: Exposed" seems to be a part of Eugenia Scott's organization, does it not? It seems to me that website is not credible, since they all have an axe to grind, so to speak. If they were all really deceived, where are their lawsuits?

After I posted my comment above, I read an article on National Review Online entitled "The Dang Thing", by David Berlinski. Here is the link:

I highly recommend reading this article for getting additional information on the controversies surrounding this movie.
Blessings!

Hi Bryan-
I take the word of those who were misled because it makes sense, especially seeing how 'expelled' producers didn't invite them to the screening and actually kicked-out PZ Myers after he signed-up and was accepted. I've done many TV shows, so I know deeply the degree of rudeness this was. The producers burned all their bridges with "the enemy" but they don't care. The whole thing is very anti-spirit-led. Eugenia Scott was much more of a Christian role-model than these producers and others who are mockers.
Why no lawsuit? I guess there is no law against rudeness. I have also been interviewed before then twisted in print, so I know what it feels like to be abused in the media.
You mention David Berlinksi. I saw the film three times, and they always give the impression that he is some independent scholar. After doing some research, I find out he is one of the fellows of the Discovery Institute! I find that very dishonest, as his relationship was totally hidden. Click
